Another Washington river, the East Fork of the Lewis River is the best place on this list for a hot day. The water’s a little colder, but like the Washougal, this spot will be far less crowded than the Oregon rivers mentioned. Put in at Lewisville Regional Park just north of Battleground and take out at Daybreak Park near La Center. Make sure to stop by some swimming holes along the route.
There are several wonderful swimming options available along the Washougal River. During warm summer weekends you find many cars parked along alongside the scenic and windy Washougal River Road. Between mile markers 3 and 5 is a 2-mile stretch of the Washougal River that provides numerous sun-drenched rocky outcroppings, small pebbly beaches, and clear, pools of cool mountain water. When the water level is still high enough, you can even float this stretch on an inner tube. Be sure to have your Washington State Discovery Pass before heading out.
